F5, a multi-cloud application security and delivery company that enables its customers to bring extraordinary digital experiences to life, has partnered with Green Standards to keep used office furniture from clogging landfills. Since 2015, F5 has been working with Green Standards to allocate large quantities of office furniture to Green Standards’ network of non-profits in the Pacific Northwest.
One of the recipients of this furniture is the Homeownership Center Northwest (HCNW), which develops affordable homeownership for low and moderate-income individuals and families. HCNW does this by building and renovating single and multi-family homes, providing financial education and counseling, as well as classes for home care and maintenance.
F5 and Green Standards
Instead of discarding their lightly used furniture, F5 is working with Green Standards to give those items a second life throughout the community. HCNW is just one of the latest beneficiary of their in-kind donations. F5’s efforts have made a major positive impact on the environment, for HCNW, and for the non-profits and citizens that HCNW then helped in turn.
F5’s Cumulative Donation Numbers at a Glance:
- 98% of their furniture has been diverted from landfill
- 465 total tons of furniture has been diverted
- $190,858 of in-kind donations
- 51 local non-profit beneficiaries
- 1,179 tonnes of CO2 emissions reduced
The equivalent to:
- Reducing gasoline consumption by 132,051 gallons
- Growing 30,183 tree seedlings for 10 years
- Offsetting electricity use from 162 homes for 1 year
Helping Others in Need With Donated Furniture
Social & Environmental Impact
HCNW is a thriving community based 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. Founded in 1993, their mission is to combat the growing issues facing neighborhoods in their area by investing in residents who live there. Their team renovates and restores many previously forgotten properties to bring them into the affordable housing market.
Their work helps empower people to become homeowners. Thanks to a recent in-kind donation to the HCNW facilitated by Green Standards, they are able to give people another leg up in these trying times by furnishing their new homes.
By keeping these donated items in use with other organizations we are extending the life-cycle of these furniture assets and keeping them out of the landfill in their second home.
Supporting a Circular Economy
Inspired by the principles of the circular economy, Green Standards works with forward-thinking corporations to recover usable resources and repurpose valuable products to the benefit of businesses, the environment and communities across North America.
David Puszczewicz, Executive Director, elaborated on the work they do in the greater Tacoma area and throughout Pierce County, Washington, and why the donation from F5 and Green Standards was so impactful.
Thanks to F5’s donation and the HCNW’s community work, prospective homeowners are able to buy and enjoy furnished homes without the typical stress and financial burdens, which have only heightened during the pandemic.
