Spotlight: Theatre Puget Sound Refreshes Their Auditorium With Donated Chairs

With hundreds of beneficiaries receiving furniture donations from Green Standards to kick off 2020, we wanted to feature non-profit, Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) in Seattle who refreshed their auditorium and common areas with donated chairs, tables and more.

Theatre Puget Sound works to create a robust and equitable theatre program. They support, artists and arts sector employees with professional development, shared resources, and community networking opportunities in order to help sustain the local theatre community and create opportunities for communities often underrepresented in the field.

“The audiences for shows in our venues will be much more comfortable when attending. Here is a picture of the Black Box Theatre with the previous chairs, which were narrow, armless & not all that comfortable” says Richard Shaefer at TPS Theatre.

Before and after at Theatre Puget Sound

Green Standards had the pleasure of working with TPS Theatre these past couple of weeks to facilitate in-kind donations from a corporate partner in Seattle. By donating these furniture items, our client was able to divert their surplus furniture and equipment from landfill while supporting more than 50 local community organizations in the process.

So far in 2020, Green Standards have made in-kind donations of furniture and equipment worth more than $500,000 to more than 150 non-profits across North America. In the process, we kept more than 1,200 tons of furnishings out of the landfill in January, through the sustainable decommission of our client’s corporate offices.

Wonderful organization, found a clever way to help local not-for-profits with their furniture needs. Everyone I have dealt with has been helpful, friendly, and professional, including the truckers who deliver furniture to the door!

  • Representation is not an afterthought.
  • Every person in the Puget Sound is positively affected by theatre.
  • There is no dominant culture as gatekeeper to space, resources, decision-making, and programming.
  • Theatre is not a privilege, but the norm.

  • Theatre does not have to justify its existence, even in an economic downturn.
  • Theatre is necessary for the health and growth of our community and our world.
