TORONTO (Nov 15, 2018) Green Standards receives more accolades at the annual REmmy Awards Gala. CoreNet Global’s Canadian Chapter recognized Green Standards with the coveted Corporate Citizen Award for its Green Workplace Decommission Program, as exemplified through a major 2017 project with OMERS and Oxford Properties.
The REmmy Award competition is a Canadian Chapter event that recognizes leadership excellence, innovation, sustainable design and social responsibility in corporate real estate and workplace management. The 2018 Awards Gala was held on November 14th at Arcadian Court, 401 Bay Street, Toronto.
On this award-winning project, Green Standards diverted 99% (492 tons) of OMERS’ surplus assets from landfill while donating more than $98,000 worth of office furniture to 18 local non-profits.
OMERS chose Green Standards’ industry leading services to responsibly decommission 400,000 square feet of office space across three sites in Toronto’s financial district. The partnership formed while OMERS was preparing to move 1400 employees into the new LEED Platinum, EY Tower at 100 Adelaide Street West, and identified the need for a more sustainable solution for its surplus furniture.
“The diversion numbers for the Green Workplace Decommission Program are impressive and speak for themselves. These types of initiatives are so very important at this critical time and it is good to learn of this kind of leadership and success in the corporate real estate sector.”

Sponsored by Cushman and Wakefield, the Corporate Citizen Award was the last of the 4 awards announced at the annual gala. Trevor Langdon and Jonathan Milnes of our executive team were in attendance and were pleased to accept the CRE award for the second time; in 2016, Green Standards won their first REmmy Award for their outstanding results on their nationwide project with TELUS, that generated in-kind donations of $223,000 to more than 30 community organizations.

The 2017 project with OMERS is just one example of the corporate sustainability initiatives led by Green Standards in recent years. Since 2009, Green Standards has diverted 46,000+ tons of furniture and equipment from landfill and recently surpassed $25 million worth of in-kind donations to more than 4500 non-profits and community organizations.
With over 1500 projects completed throughout North America, Green Standards continues to boast a 98.6% landfill diversion rate. Already in 2018, Green Standards has donated more than 3.5 million dollars worth of furniture and equipment to over 700 non-profit partners.
Watch
“As companies have seen a need to be more transparent and responsible with their decommission projects, we’ve seen the demand for our process grow significantly,” Trevor explains.
Through innovative strategies and diligent planning, we’ve made our project costs equal to or less than conventional landfill disposal, making for a true triple bottom line solution.
Where conventional solutions (liquidators and movers) produce an alarming amount of waste, Green Standards generates value for businesses, local communities, and the environment.
